Great day, thanks Jordan & Darcy. Went home buzzing. Really pleased with lots of the shots and learnt from the ones I had to throw away. These are my faves - I like the in-your-face ones, but I also like the ones with a bit of background, sometimes really incongruous, like the woman on the street or cavemen in urban setting, or setting the scene, with a party in the background. Low res for the blog.

Starting from the bottom:
ReplyDeleteThe devils is a great shot, a nice full frame...a great perspective makes them larger than life and the sky makes a nice uncluttered 'canvas' for them to rest on...I love the cheeky looking 'chubby' devil peeping out from behind.
The clowns another good shot, working well as you did with the devils, filling the frame, uncluttered canvas...but also you took a hard subject - a large group and a/ got them all sharp (no easy task for a bigger group) but you have them all on different planes both horizontally and vertically (I have advanced students who struggle with that!) well done
Miss beautiful Netherlands - A different take from other shots that others had done...which I think is good...you explored a different way to shoot her...she looks more contemplative looking out of the frame...and yet the diagonal tilt of her head keeps the compsition energetic..enough dof for context but not so much that she is 'lost'
Mr Belarus: You just kept it 'clean' nice perspective, wide and close and let his great face do the work...he looks such a teddy bear with his gentle smooth
The girl Ninja Turtles in green - again a great result with a largish group...always challening...good perspective, nice exposure the green of their costumes pops...again the are not all on the same plane...well done
Catwalk Queen??
a great caught moment, enough context to give us a sense he's a large party!! but with not too much dof and because he takes up 80% of the frame we are clear the focus is him
The yellow 'Despicable Me' Minion: Nice exposure, nice filling of the frame...slighty wide so his glasses seem to be moving forward which looks great
The Pirate: This is a fantastic compostion, the strong triangle his makes with is arm gives the image a most dynamic feel added to the wider angle and him moving forward in the frame...I love his expression
The Eyelash Ladies: these girls look like the women who turned up to parties in the Great Gatsby...you have caught them very naturally rather than posing...nice...I would probably crop out the red head on the left she just distracts a bit
Red Chicken: also just a nice caught moment...he looks just like he's reacting to you naturally and having a great time...nice exposure and filling the frame..I would probably crop about 20% off the top of the frame
The cave men: using the wide angle here but further away causes convergence which works well for this environment...the pillars outside pillars are converging into the back one and because the group is in the middle of that they also seem to be converging which looks great
The tall rude lady: great exposure and shot so early in the day... I like the juxtaposition between here with her dubious behaviour and the none the wiser gentle man on the left!!
Cris you did a great job...you were fantastic in your interaction with your subjects all the while shooting manually which you had not done before...that's HUGE...we all want to be 100% immediately (that's the 21Century disease) but it's in the doing and dissecting the images seeing what works and what didn't quite come off that the learning occurs and we can then quickly gain ground in our work...
Hope to see you again you were so much fun to be around
cheers
Jordyn
